Planning for an 800 Point Sector Fleet Tournament

Tomorrow I get to do something fun, I am running an 800 Point Sector Fleet event at Dice Age Games.  It looks like we are going to have a really strong turnout with some players driving down from Seattle for the day.

Well, life has been busy lately, so the first round of the event will actually be my first real 800 point game of Armada.  I need to figure out a fleet, so I thought I would share how I put it together here.



So, what do I do for an 800 point fleet?  

Well, let's start with a few assumptions that I have about an 800 point Sector Fleet match:
  • Offense is much greater than defense.  With more ships on the map and more shots being fired, defensive measures are going to get quickly overwhelmed.  It's better to just invest in more firepower.
  • Fleet commands and other "Aura" style bonuses like Home One or Toryn Farr that effect multiple ships are going to be much stronger in larger games with more ships that gain their benefits.  
  • The opposite of this would be that admirals that really only impact a single ship, Raddus or Rieekan as examples, will be less impactful in 800 point games.
  • While playing with 200 points of squads seems fun, it will just take too long.  I think games may run up against time pretty frequently so I will probably keep the squad compliment pretty simple.  Rogues seem like they might be strong for picking off wounded ships.
Given all of that I am thinking of using Admiral Ackbar.  Let's just go with all offense, all the time.  With lots of ships I am thinking there should be good opportunities to pull of multiple Ackbar-Slash style moves.

I am going to try and fit in Home One, Toryn Farr, and Intensify Firepower! for dice fixing.  I might also grab Entrapment Formation! to help simplify my command stacks.

And then grab lots of Rogues.  I think they will be effective cleaning up at the end of the rounds and can spare me from having to think about issuing Squadron commands.
