World Cup 2018 Final - JJs Juggernaut vs Green Knight - Thursday, March 1st, 2000 hours GMT!

Watch the game "in person" on Vassal, or LIVE on Twitch.

Here it is, the final match for the 2018 World Cup Armada Vassal Championship.  We've had some amazing games up to this point, but ultimately there could only be two players that made it to the end.  It is no surprise that either of these players made it all the way, after all they were the winner and runner up of last year's World Cup.  In one corner, the 2016 World Champion and 2017 Vassal World Cup Champion JJs Juggernaut, and his "Raddus Bomb".  In the other, Green Knight, the 2017 Nordic "National" Champion and 2017 World Cup Runner-up.

GRUDGE MATCH!

*Raddus / Profundity means JJs will start with 5 deployments & 3 activations.

Wave 6 Upgrades - Turbolasers

I still can't believe I took this long to get to the Wave 6 upgrades.  We'll be through them after today though.

ALRIGHT LET'S DO THIS!

LEEEERROOOYYY... I mean, hi everybody! We've all been playing with wave 7 for a little while now. I hope you're all enjoying the wave as much as I am. I love the beginning of a new wave. The innovation goes bonkers for a while as we all figure out what works for us and what doesn't. Wave 6 was a pretty mild wave. It gave us a few cool upgrades, but didn't substantially alter the game in a major way. Wave 7, by contrast, is a tsunami. Not only are there are a lot more upgrades to digest, they're also more substantial in the way they impact the game.

Wave 6 Upgrades - Ordnance

Well, if this isn't overdue, I don't know what is.  The Wave 6 came out in July of 2017, so... 7 months late to write about this and the W6 Turbolasers?

Whatever, we'll just deal with it.

Commander's Guide - Mandolorian Gauntlet Fighter

Two of these guys manage to sneak into the Chimera expansion.  Are they worth your time to bring along?

We're coming up on the end of this World Cup, with few surprises thus far. JJ has a squeaker against Broba, coming down to a single flotilla kill.

Commander's Guide - MC75 Cruiser

Time to (finally) get to the other Large Ship release of Wave 7, the MC75 Cruiser from the Profundity expansion pack.  We'll take a look at the two variants, and look at their roles in the Rebel fleet and how you might want to kit them out.

Madine Postmortem

Regionals season is behind me, so it's time to look have a hard look at my (poor) choices for the last few months. Madine scored me 9th place at my Regionals. That's a bit disappointing on my end as that's a drop from last year. Either I'm getting worse at this game (very possible) or I need to stop trying to make niche commanders something they're not (hey, I recognized Rieekan early on, didn't I?). Bellyaching aside, let's dive into the postmortem.

Video - Setting up Kill Zones

It's been a long time in coming, but I added a new video to my tactics series.  This time it deals with some ideas on how to set up Kill Zones in your Armada games.  Take a look:

Quarter-Final Preview - Tokra vs Aresius

Here's the final Quarter-Final matchup.  Not a lot of games left to play.  Let's check out Tokra, one of the best European players and the top German competitor and his matchup against Aresius, a top Italian player and the third place finisher at European Continentals to Tokra's second place.  I'm not sure if they've personally played one another before, but they have certainly been in the same tournament.

Only one moves on to the final four.  Will it be Tokra, or will Aresius show that he's able to finish on the big stage?

Quarterfinal Round- JJ vs Brobafett

For our penultimate highlight of the quarterfinals, I'm looking at Broba and JJ. Both came out of fairly close matches, so this should be another great match to watch.

When One Ship is Enough

We had a pause in our Corellian Conflict this week so I had the chance to try out a fleet concept that I have been excited about, the Raddus Nesting Doll fleet.  I've been playing a variation of it in the campaign, but wanted to try a 400 point version to see how it plays.

Getting a nesting doll fleet to 400 points was tricky, so I decided to make something of an unconventional move.  Only starting with one ship on the table.

Quarter-Final Round - Dupy vs Roquax

Onward to the Quarter-Final round.  Here, we stop caring what players did in the distant past - they are here for a reason!  Now "Intangibles" will be looking at what it took for the player to get to this point in the tournament, and what kind of tournament they are having.

Quarterfinal Round- Green Knight vs. Karneck

Revised Commander's Guide - Imperial Star Destroyer

Next in our list of Revised Commander's Guides, I think it is time to look at the Imperial Class Star Destroyer, which just saw the number of variants jump from the typical "two" of literally every other ship, to four different possibilities.  And all this from the Chimera expansion pack!  Well, might as well dive into the meat.

Elimination Round- Captain Weather vs Karneck

Only two more previews left.  Truthiness was supposed to write this one but he's been slacking, so this is Biggs writing on his behalf.

Quick Thoughts on a Wave 7 Seasonal Tournament

Hooray, Wave 7 is here for Star Wars: Armada.  I was excited to pick my new ships up last week and it worked out that one of the local shops, The Portland Game Store, was having a seasonal kit tournament.  I figured it would be a great chance to not only try, but to play against some of the new toys from Wave 7.

Elimination Round- Aresius vs BMcDonald7

Today's highlighted match up is the Winner of Pod #5, Aresius, against the Runner-up of Pod #4, BMcDonald7.
