The Matchup

Aresius has been rocking a version of this list for a good while now, though usually with a higher bid. He was one of the first to do the single big ship plus flotillas spam, an approach that has served him well. He came in third at this past year's European Championships with a very similar list. That MC80L is brutal. The rest of the list is designed to set it up. His squadron composition has changed significantly since I last saw his list, moving from a dedicated air superiority ball to more of a dual threat wing. He has an awful lot of advantages going his way in this match. Even with only a 3 point bid, he still has the choice of first or second player. Having seen him play in the past, I can't imagine he'll pass up first player with that MC80L. He'll also have the last deployment, so that same MC80L will go exactly where he wants it. Finally, his multi-role wing is also considerably larger than BMcDonald's.

BMcDonald's list is somewhat of an Imperial mirror. Instead of an MC80L, he has the considerably more imposing BT Avenger going for him. That's going to be particular hard to knock out with Motti on board. He backs it up with the secondary threat of Demolisher. His squadron wing is an interesting mix. With Ruthless Strategists on Demo and plenty of hull, they can hold their own for a bit in the squadron fight. Mauler piles on more auto damage. Valen is the finisher of the bunch, reliably dishing out damage with his black dice. It's also not bad at bombing. All in all, it's a solid mid-level squadron wing.

Truthiness' Bet

This is probably Aresius' game to lose. He has an awful lot of key advantages going his way. Look for his squadron wing to clean up early and knock out an activation. After that, Liberty can pounce at will.
