Commander's Guide - Stormtroopers

As much as I want to get to the Speederbikes and AT-ST next, thanks to the Legion Discord Server's Veers Giveaway (and getting very lucky) I'll be doing Veers after this!  But today is for the Empire's first Corps unit, the most iconic (generic) soldier in Star Wars, the Stormtrooper.

If I Were Going to Worlds...

One of these days, I'll have the time and money to make it to FFG's World Championships. I swear. In the meantime, I'll just continue to pine for the experience, reassure myself I'll totally be able to do it next year (yeah, right), while also daydreaming about somehow winning NOVA this year and doing it all for free. That hasn't stopped me from refining my wave 7 list. If you're going to Worlds and want a netlist, I'm taking a page out of Green Knight's book and offering this up to anyone that wants to take it.

Some Thoughts on Legion Unit Effectiveness

After getting in a few more games of Legion in the past week I am starting to get a better feel for the strengths and weaknesses of the different units that came out with the launch of the game.

Predicting the Armada World's Meta

We're a little less than a month out from Worlds. Of the three of us, only Biggs is able to go. So as a dispassionate observer (fine, peanut gallery), I thought I'd take a look at what we might expect in this post-errata meta.

The State of Armada

I'm not sure where I got this picture, but it's a good one.
It feels weird writing this.  When Legion was first coming out, I joked that it was the new hotness and was pushing Armada aside.  Then the jokes started to feel more real.  Locally, we failed to get enough people for our Quarterly Kit for the first time since... 2015?  When Assault Frigates and VSDs were the biggest things you could put on the table, and squadrons were "bad" before some guy ran maximum A-Wings at Worlds.

So where is Armada now?

Ground Commander's Guide - AT-RT

The AT-RT, not exactly the most well known weapon in the arsenal of the Rebel Alliance.  This Clone War era weapon is back and it isn't spectacular, as you might expect from old technology.  This is the Rebel's first Support unit, which you can take up to three in a standard game.  Let's take a look at it and see how it fits into the Rebel's game plan.

Accessorizing Legion

I like games.

I also like to buy shiny accessories for my favorite games.  When I buy a new board game I almost immediately check to see if The Broken Token makes a new insert for it.

So, as I am enjoying the heck out of Star Wars; Legion it seemed like time to get some new accessories for the game.  Some of that has been terrain and I have some posts coming up on my terrain building projects.  Today though I am going to focus on a couple of recent purchases.

Wave 7 Upgrades - Weapons Teams

Only one Weapons Team upgrade card for Wave 7, if you don't count the Boarding Team (Weapons Team + Offensive Retrofit) as well.  Caitken and Shollan will fill an interesting role on a Rebel ship.

Ground Commander's Guide - Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith

We need to talk about the Empire.  I've been doing a good job putting out Rebel units, but there's a whole 'nother group out there just begging to be talked about.  So let's start with the "Wave 0" Commander, the biggest, baddest thing on the battlefield - Darth Vader!

Ground Commander's Guide - T-47 Airspeeder

On to another Ground Commander's Guide for units.  Today we'll be looking at the T-47 Airspeeder, the Rebel's "Heavy" unit from what I'm going to be calling "Wave 0".  Bringing an Airspeeder is a big investment in points, so you're going to want to ensure that it is worth your time to put one onto the battlefield.

Wave 7 Upgrades - Neutral Officers

Here's an "easy" Armada article.  There's only one Neutral Officer in Wave 7!

Ground Commander's Guides - Legion's Turn 0; Understanding Setup

Today instead of doing an after-action report like I was planning on, I'm instead going to talk about "Turn 0" otherwise known as the "Setup" for the standard game.

Special thanks for this article go to Jake's custom Scarif map, which he transported to Drawbridge Games on Sunday.

Armada Errata Hot Take

Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... the dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

After Action Report - Yet More Legion from Biggs (Game 1)

Got two more games of Legion in on Saturday.  Let's take a look at what happened and the impressions to take away from the games.  The first game was against Jake, a local player who is new to miniatures in general, but has bought in hard to Legion.  He's putting together a very impressive Scarif board.  Anyway, let's get to the fight:

Ground Commander's Guide - Rebel Troopers

Time to talk about the "Corps" unit in the game.  The Rebel Troopers from the Core Set and Rebel Troopers expansion are the first Corps type unit Rebel players will have access too, until the Fleet Troopers come out with Leia in "Wave 1".  These units will form the backbone of your armies and be at the center of your victories - in fact 1/2 of all victory conditions specify "Troopers" (i.e. not vehicles), and the other half specify "Unit Leaders" (of which these are the cheapest to put on the table).

Yes, I know I haven't talked about Vader yet.  I'll be honest, I'm going to be a Rebel player, so I'll get around to talking about the Imperials when I can / my buddy paints his.
