Massing the Fleet

Store Championship season is in full swing and some major tournaments are on the horizon in the United States. North American Championships at GENCON are just around the corner as of this writing and US Nationals at the NOVA Open are just a month after that. The last errata updates for Star Wars Armada was a pretty substantial change for the competitive scene. There are new considerations to keep in mind along with some old ones coming back into play. If you've been following Shmitty and I's Sato escapades, you'll know that it's worth taking a look at some disfavored commanders once more. They may have quietly become a good deal better with the changes. Some smaller changes, such as those to Gallant Haven and Yavaris, have caused some minor changes in tactics. While significant in rebalancing some of the most dominant fleet builds, they didn't cause any major changes in the overall makeup of the game’s meta. For the largest impact on the meta, you have to look to the changes to flotillas in the tournament regulations. Despite their diminutive stature, Gr-75 Transport and Gozanti Cruisers had an outsized impact on the game, leading to a pair of significant changes. With that all that in mind, it's time for a nice hard look at what that has meant for the meta.

High Priority - AAR with Priority Supplies Battle Cards

Guess what?  I got a game in against my buddy Kasey with the new Battle Cards from Priority Supplies.  A combination of random luck and careful selection wound up with these cards for the game.

We're getting our games in at Drawbridge Games - my local gaming store - where we're winding up a month long custom League.  "Operation Wampa Brunch"

Operational Objective:  Destroy 2 Trooper Units (easy enough, right?) in a single game.
Major Achievement:  Bring either 2 Commanders and 1 Heavy unit or 1 Commander and 2 Heavy units in your army.  (We have both completed this in previous games)

MA In Art History - The Soundness of Plans

“A great tactician creates plans. A good tactician recognizes the soundness of a plan presented on him. A fair tactician must see the plan succeed before offering approval.
Those with no tactical ability at all may never understand or accept it. Nor will such people understand or accept the tactician. To those without that ability, those who posses it are a mystery.
And when a mind is too deficient in understanding, the resulting gap is often filled with with resentment.”

That's No FAQ! - 7/16/18 Legion Rules Update

I usually do an FAQ update every time Armada releases one, but Legion doesn't play like that.  Instead, we have a living document for our rules.

That's pretty sweet.

Anyway, FFG released an update that goes into effect on the 16th of July.  Let's take a look at what changes, what is possible spoilers, and what we can learn:

Spoilers:  This is allowed.

The World is Officially Ending: Sato is Legit

If you haven't been keeping up with Shmitty and I's lately Armada escapades, we both got the bug to take Sato off the trash heap and give him the old college try for Store Championship season. I think we both expected to have a good laugh, get a bunch of fun games in, and then turn back to more serious fleets as we prepped for big tournaments (GENCON for Shmitty, NOVA for myself). We bounced ideas off each other, refined our own takes, and then got him on the table at about the same time. First it seemed like a fluke. Then it the reality began to settle in. Ready for a sweeping declaration? Sato is legitimately viable in this meta.

Ground Commander's Guide - Han Solo: Unorthodox General

So, we've got Han Solo completely spoiled for us at this point.  It's fair to say we can do a pretty reasonable Ground Commander's Guide for him, assuming we got an accurate review.

Combined Arms - Integrating Different Units In Your Legion Army

Here's an article that has been asked for, but difficult to write.  How do we talk about utilizing different units in our Legion armies and the best strategies for doing so?  Well, the best way to do this is to look at general battle strategy.

Just so you know where I'm getting my sources on this.
