World Cup 2018 Final - JJs Juggernaut vs Green Knight - Thursday, March 1st, 2000 hours GMT!

Watch the game "in person" on Vassal, or LIVE on Twitch.

Here it is, the final match for the 2018 World Cup Armada Vassal Championship.  We've had some amazing games up to this point, but ultimately there could only be two players that made it to the end.  It is no surprise that either of these players made it all the way, after all they were the winner and runner up of last year's World Cup.  In one corner, the 2016 World Champion and 2017 Vassal World Cup Champion JJs Juggernaut, and his "Raddus Bomb".  In the other, Green Knight, the 2017 Nordic "National" Champion and 2017 World Cup Runner-up.

GRUDGE MATCH!

*Raddus / Profundity means JJs will start with 5 deployments & 3 activations.

The Matchup

Want to see what Green Knight thinks about this matchup?  Check out his blog here.

Just looking on paper, Green Knight has a pretty good advantage here.  He's got the bid, and is almost certain to select first player against JJ's obvious first player bid.  Without taking Raddus into consideration, he does have deployment advantage over JJs, though that is almost instantly negated in reality.  He definitely has activations on his side.  His Devastator, if he gets it's super laser charged, is capable of "Acing" everything but the MC75, and can first/last ace even that if he gets good position.

But it will be very, very hard for him to get that good position.  JJ's Raddus Bomb / Nesting Dolls is very much able to reach out from places it shouldn't be able to.  Objective selection will also be tricky - without revealing JJ's objectives, the VCX's make Green Knight selecting any token based objectives a difficult call, and there are some very bad Red objective options for him as well.

Biggs' Bet (8-1 Record)

If you asked me before this tournament started to pick who would wind up in the final, these two would have been my off-the-cuff selections.  Once the tournament started, JJs got off to a rocky start, but quickly found his feet.  Green Knight has been on point since Round 1, Turn 1 of POD play.  Both have solid lists that I am sure we will see more variations on as we approach Worlds in May.

I think Raddus wins this matchup.

Not to take away anything from either player, because each one is at the top of their game.  Each list has their advantages and disadvantages.  And a generic JJs vs a generic Greenie list might go either way.  But this isn't a matchup of generic lists, and Raddus can create a lot of havoc once he gets a ship behind Devastator.

Truthiness's Bet (5-2 Record)

Biggs nails it. JJ should be able to slip his big, valuable ship behind GK, avoiding the wrath of Demo and Devastator. This could be pretty close, though. JJ has to slip Admo past Demo and Devastator to ensure victory. Otherwise he might not be able to chase down and kill Demo or Devastator as second player to even out the points.
